. The record of speed for all kinds of ship is not officially set and changes very quickly but it can be estimated at approximately 200km/h.
. As far as weight and power are considered, the record has been set by the russian military hydrofoil Babochka ("butterfly") with a more than 400 tons weight and a top speed estimated at approximately 50 knots (92.6 km/h). This record was set thanks to surface piercing foils in he front and fully submerdged foils in the back.

. The record has been set by the Decavitator with a 18.5 knots (33.3km/h) speed set on a 100m distance without using current or wind.

. The current record for sailers is held (for all kinds and surfaces of sails) by the australian hydrofoil Yellowpage Endevour since octobre 26th 1993 with a 46.52 knots (86.2 km/h) speed evaluated on a 500m distance.

. As far as scale models equiped using wind power are concerned, the record is held by a 2m/2m remote-controlled craft weighting 3.2kg and equiped with 2.2mē of sails (that can be compared to the usual 20mē used by a 250kg catamaran), the Minifoiler, with a more than 15 knots (27.8km/h) top speed.
